an arch across Galernaya Street

Triumphal arch across the street Galernaya came to symbolize the unity of church and state. In its design Rossi used one of unrealized projects Arch on Palace Square. Height of the arch, along with a statue is 26 meters, the arch height - 12 meters, width of the arch - 20 meters. Above the arch is placed sculptural group "Piety and Justice", symbolizing faith in the law.

Sculptural decoration of buildings was created by the sculptor W. Demuth- Malinovsky, S. Pimenov, N. Tokarev, Pyotr Sokolov, P.V. Svintsov, N. Ustinov, I.I. Leppe. Ustinov created a statue of "Faith" (the first alcove on the left), Sokolov - "Piety" (the second niche on the left). S. Pimenov carried statues of "law" and "justice." While working on them, he died. In 1833 model was completed by his son, N.S. Pimenov.

Decorating the arch bas reliefs and allegorical reveal the history of Russian legislation, praised the state power. The largest bas-relief "civil law" - over the arch, was made by P.V. Svintsov and I.I. Leppe. Among others we can see bust of Peter I and Catherine II. The same sculptors has created a bas-relief in the left side of the arch - the "Law of God" (dedicated to the Synod), on the right - "natural law" (dedicated to the Senate).
