SEMINAR ON “ REMOTE CONTROLLING OF TECHNICAL SYSTEMS USING MOBILE DEVICES”

THE CONCEPT BEHIND OUR TOPIC;  Developments in mobile technology.  Monitor and control purposes.  Used in technical system of an industry.  Use UMTS,GSM, wireless LAN & bluetooth.

 Robot running in the technical system.  Runs a server program written in javaMe.  Runnable on most mobile devices.  connected to the faculties wireless LAN.  MOBILE DEVICES-MOBILE NETWORK- MOBILE ROBOT.

LONG DISTANCE:GSM & UMTS TCP/IP SERVER CLIENT/MOBILE

SMARTPHONES

WIRELESS DATA COMMUNICATION {GSM/UMTS NETWORKS}

LATENCY MEASUREMENTS

BLUETOOTH USB Bluetooth dongle connected to the server. Short distance communication.

IMPLEMENTATION OF A PROTOTYPE

CONTROL SERVER [ROBOT] Server runs on the onboard computer of the robot. Program is written in javame. PTZ camera captures the image.

USER CONTROL INTERFACE [MOBILE DEVICES] wireless LAN uses TCP/IP sockets. BLUETOOTH device behaves differently. Mobile do not feature full size keyboard. Joystick-game keys. BLUETOOTH detects nearby devices only. It doesn’t need IP address. Requires service ID.

STEPS TO CONNECT TO ROBOT

ANNOTATED WEBCAM PICTURE

ADOPTION OF SERVER TO THE CONNECTION Features of each mobiles are different. Display size and resolution. Reduce band width wastage,client sends the size. Server scales down the image from webcam.

ADVANTAGES Control can be made using a mobile. Cost for supervision can be reduced. Provide a security to the technical system.

DISADVANTAGES Cost for making the robots high. To have smart phones to get the better results. Display size and resolution is different.

FUTURE SCOPE Localization algorithms developments. Drive the robot through a building. Control the whole industry

CONCLUSION Faster and feature richer mobile phones. Mobiles can be used for complex services. Mobile phones + wireless data communication technology. = Remote controlling using mobiles
