EGI CF 2013 – Manchester, 12 April  WP4 is a SUPPORT Activity  WP4 – Data Infrastructures  Task 4.1 – Information gathering on Data Infrastructures and relevant Data Repositories (CIEMAT)  Task 4.2 – Analysis of existing and proposed Data Infrastructures (INFN)  Task 4.3 – Use cases (CIEMAT) WP4 in DoW

EGI CF 2013 – Manchester, 12 April  WP4 must submit 5 Deliverables through the project lifetime  All of them are public  They will report on Trans-continental Data Infrastructures and Data repositories and on several Use Cases WP4 in DoW

EGI CF 2013 – Manchester, 12 April  WP4 must fulfil a list of Milestones too  It must then collaborate with several communities  It must organise a Technical Meeting on Federation of Clouds for R&E (by the beginning of 2014) WP4 in DoW

EGI CF 2013 – Manchester, 12 April What are we working on? Objectives & Aims

EGI CF 2013 – Manchester, 12 April  Extend the CHAIN-REDS Knowledge Base (BS) with Data Infrastructures   Support the study of data infrastructures for a few VRCs  Promote trust building towards open scientific data infrastructures across the world regions Objectives & Aims

EGI CF 2013 – Manchester, 12 April  Study the opportunities of data sharing across different e- Infrastructures and continents  Provide proof-of principle use-cases for Data sharing across the continents Objectives & Aims

EGI CF 2013 – Manchester, 12 April Actions… Actions

EGI CF 2013 – Manchester, 12 April  WP4 is jointly working with the rest of CHAIN-REDS WPs Actions

EGI CF 2013 – Manchester, 12 April  An investigation on the available (Open Access) Data Repositories is on the way  Information is being collected in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East  New ones are being incorporated into the Knowledge Base  An analysis on these results and on the commonalities and differences of the available data repositories will be performed in the coming months Actions

EGI CF 2013 – Manchester, 12 April  About Open Access Data Repositories, standards are being promoted  OAI-PMH for metadata retrieval  Dublin Core as metadata schema  SPARQL for semantic web search  VOTable (XML) as potential standard for the interchange of data represented as a set of tables Actions

EGI CF 2013 – Manchester, 12 April  Current developments on Open Access Data Repositories are expected  A semantic web enrichment  A semantic search engine  A first version of the search engine on CHAIN-REDS linked data is available  Allows searching among the semantically-enriched metadata coming from the OADRs and DRs included in the CHAIN KB  Visitors can either enter a keyword in the search window or select a language and get the list of available subjects in that language  Actions

EGI CF 2013 – Manchester, 12 April  Future development on Open Access Data Repositories is expected based on a tool for extracting the data associated to them  There have been three interesting presentations in this EGI CF  “Standard-based interoperability amongst local, grid and cloud resources distributed worldwide” by Prof. R. Barbera (Science Gateways Workshop, April, 9 th )  “The CHAIN-REDS Project and its Data Infrastructure Program” by Prof. R. Barbera (DCH-RP Workshop, April, 10 th )  “Extending the CHAIN Knowledge Base to Open Access Linked Data using KLIOS services” by Drs. C. Carrubba and G. Inserra (Communities and Communication, April, 10 th ) Actions

EGI CF 2013 – Manchester, 12 April  CHAIN-REDS has identified in a first phase several fields with interests in the different regions  Agriculture  e-Government  Earth Science  Astronomy and Astrophysics  Potential collaborations with initiatives and projects working on these areas are expected  Other fields are not restricted!!! Actions

EGI CF 2013 – Manchester, 12 April  The final goal is to propose at least two use cases, which show common format for the stored data by means of software developments that could make all of them compatible and ‘interoperable’ Actions
