RUN OFFS By: Mosammat Taher
WHAT IS A RUN-OFF? A run off is when water flows over land areas and mixes with soil, minerals, and other contents This is a major part of the water cycle. When this runoff flows across certain surfaces and reaches a channel, it is known as nonpoint source
WHAT COULD BE TH PROBLEM? When a run off goes across man made materials such as contaminants, it becomes a nonpoint course pollution Some examples are fertilizers, petroleum, and pesticides The problem is that water is supposed to drain down to soil to what is an aquifer, however, when humans create streets, roads, and other things made out of pavement, the water cannot do that and goes straight to the water sources such as streams and rivers
Effect on the Environment? Water Table is the submarine pressure to the atmospheric pressure Water tables are lowered, which causes more draughts Farmers cannot work well with that and therefore it affects them as well The well water is not clean or safe The contaminants causes erosion more and siltation ( which is pollution of the water by such particles)
Effects on Humans? MAJOR human health risk! Drinking water Fish are contaminated Plants are getting water from the bad water that are then eaten by humans Video : Solving Run Off Block by Block Video: Things YOU can do to help slow run off and EPA
