The world of work

Compare and contrast the photographs

give a brief description of the photos (action, location) say what the pictures have in common say in what way the pictures are different say which of the jobs presented in the pictures you’d prefer explain why You will speak for not more than 2 minutes (12–15 sentences). You have to talk continuously.

Compare and contrast the photographs Brief description of the photos (action, location) In the left picture I can see a woman working in an office. She’s dressed professionally and sitting at her desk in front of her computer. She seems to be quietly working on something, maybe a report for her boss or some kind of presentation for a project.

Compare and contrast the photographs Brief description of the photos (action, location) In the right-hand picture I can see a man working on a construction site, and it looks as if he’s building a house, or maybe he’s constructing an office building. He’s wearing a construction uniform with a safety hat and he’s got a tool in his hand.

Compare and contrast the photographs What do the pictures have in common? The pictures are similar because they show two people who are in a certain type of work situation, and both people in the pictures are adults.

Compare and contrast the photographs In what way are the pictures different? The pictures are different in a number of ways. The obvious difference is that the person on the left is a woman and the one on the right is a man. The woman is working indoors, and is sitting still. She’s mainly using her mind to do her work. The man is working outdoors and he’s using his hands and arms to do his work. He has to think about what he’s doing, obviously, but it’s simpler task mentally. Also, the type of work in the left picture is probably safer and less physically intense to do than in the right picture.

Compare and contrast the photographs Which of the jobs presented in the pictures would you prefer? Why? I prefer the job in the left picture to the job on the right. I prefer using mental activity to do my work rather than doing something more physical, such as construction.
