What is the falling action? 4) The Falling Action – when the dramatic tension eases (lessens) because the protagonist undergoes a series of steps (a plan) for resolving the conflict.

“Conflict” – what is the major conflict in “When Mr. Pirzada...” A: The major conflict is Mr. Pirzada’s constant worry for his family in India; it is also Lilia’s realizations over his role as a father-figure.

“Exposition” – how does Lahiri set up the story? A: The story begins with an overview of the situation in India during the civil war in Pakistan. Soon after, the narrator introduces the character of Mr. Pirzada and his situation.
