Discussed future of Information Management and changes for implementation in In 2008 three major changes will be implemented: for the following Achievement Standards – – – 1.7 Change 1 These Achievement Standards will be held within a 2 week assessment time frame before the external examinations begin. Change 2 Students have access to the internet for clipart.

Criteria for the Review The criteria for making changes in the review of standards are as follows: the aims of the NCEA, such as flexibility, reducing disparity, increased access to qualifications, are not being met; Changes are necessary because of curriculum reform or review; There are changes in government objectives or initiatives for year olds; There are changes in international trends in qualifications or from qualification reforms or reviews; Broad curriculum (or parallel base document) outcomes are not correctly identified in the achievement standards; There are issues identified in the areas of assessability (including holistic approach), manageability, feasibility, validity, or coherence of the achievement standard; Levelness across or within ‘subjects’ is raised as an issue; and Technological advances (within ‘subjects’ or how evidence can be collected) make a standard outdated.

Background This change is to support students as the original two hours was not enough time for students to competently complete the three achievement standards in the given time frame and results did not support all the preparation work that was done prior to the examination period. Internet Access This raises issues of student downloads and researching of information from home. If you compare this subject with Art where students prepare a portfolio, they also have access to information and it has caused no problems. Internal Achievement Standards are also not a problem with this access.

Teacher help is another issue being discussed, and again professional decision making will prevail. Student work will be collated by the teacher and packaged as was the norm up until the change. Documentation to support this change: Changes+to+IM+Ach+Stds.doc
