WRITE THE EQUATION OF THE LINE THROUGH THE GIVEN POINTPER PARALLEL TO THE GIVEN LINE

PARALLEL AND PERPENDICULAR LINES 4.5

PARALLELL LINES  Any two lines which have the same slope and different y intercepts are parallel

PERPENDICULAR LINES  Perpendicular lines have opposite reciprocal slopes.  EX.

EXAMPLE

REVIEW WRITING EQUATIONS  Write the equation of the line with a slope of 2 which passes through the point (-3, 4)

WRITING EQUATIONS  Use the given equation to identify the slope of the line you are looking for. (keep in mind parallel vs. perpendicular)  Use that slope and the given point to write the equation of the line  Note: it is no different from what we just did!
