Step 5: Give feedback When you assess the findings in the Turnitin report: 1.High percentages do not mean as such that there are problems in the text: they can either describe allowed similarities (in citations or references), or unmarked citations (i.e. plagiarism); 2.Expressing certain matters in a precise way inevitably leads to similar expressions – there are significant differences in this regard between disciplines and you are the best expert of the practices in your field; 3.OriginalityCheck is part of thesis supervision and so the problems should be treated as manifestations of the maturity rate of the text – the extra work caused by deficiencies means further maturing the text. 4.When you have a strong suspicion of plagiarism, first ask the student for a clarification. Read the UTU regulations and where necessary, contact the Head of Academic and Student Affairs in your faculty.
