Westward Expansion Vocabulary

assimilate A small group of people (Indians) that tried to look like and act like most of the people (whites).

Natural resources Found in nature: water plants animals minerals

ore A mineral (rock)that is mined for the valuable resource it contains, such as gold or silver or copper, etc.

Adapt To change how you use something or how you do something.

Dry farming A way of farming where the seeds are planted deep into the ground where there is some moisture.

National markets Products are made, bought and transported from one side of the United States to the other.

Reservation An area of public land set aside for Native Americans.
