Claim Evidence Reasoning Mrs. Shepard Writer’s Workshop Grades 6-8

Should students be allowed to drive when they turn 13? Claim: tells if you are ‘for’ or ‘against’ the issue or topic Students should not be allowed to drive when they turn 13. Evidence: this supports your claim and gives proof Teenage brains are still developing at this young age. Children are not tall enough to drive at this age. Reason: tells the importance of the claim and tells why Because students are still maturing, they might not understand the laws and rules of driving. Children’s bodies’ are still growing during the teenage years and they might not be able to reach the gas pedal or see over the steering wheel.

Driving at 13 Students should not be allowed to drive when they turn thirteen. Due to changing hormones in young teens, adolescents might not have the maturity to drive a car. Also, teenagers are still growing and therefore, are not tall enough to drive a car. Because of the evolving maturity of teenagers, thirteen year olds might not comprehend the many laws involved with driving. Since most teens at this age are not tall enough to reach the gas pedal or see above the steering wheel, it would not be safe for them to operate a motor vehicle. In conclusion, students should not be allowed to drive when they turn thirteen.
