Circle Circumference and Area

What is an angle? Angles measure rotational distance and can be measured in multiple ways that we will discover later. Every angle is made up of 2 rays Initial Ray is where the angle starts Terminal Ray is where the angle ends (or terminates)

What is a co-terminal angle? Coterminal angles have the same terminal ray (they end at the same place – but arrive there by different routes: Angles can be formed in two different directions: Angles turned Clockwise (C-W) are negative Angles turned Counter-Clockwise (CCW) are positive If two angles have the same initial and terminal ray or side, they are called COTERMINAL ANGLES. Example: Name a third coterminal angle in the figure:

Angles and Arcs What are the 3 types or classification of angles? What is an angle with a vertex on the center of the circle called? Standard position of an angle is one in which the vertex is on the origin and the initial side is on the positive x-axis. Math Applet

Don’t forget Quadrants

Example: Graph the below piecewise function then find the exact area bounded by this function and the x-axis. Find the exact perimeter in terms of pi and simplest radical form.
