Textiles and Design Studying Textiles and Design give you the opportunity to develop your creativity and inspire your artistic passion. You will have time to create products of your choice from the five focus areas – apparel, costume, textile arts, furnishings and non-apparel. You may see textiles as a break from some of the more theory driven subject as a large percentage of the content involves practical applications.

Many students choose Textiles and Design as it provides an opportunity to create a folio to showcase their creativity if they decide to study a design course at a tertiary level. Even if you choose not to pursue a career in design, studying Textiles and Design will provide you will skills for hobbies that can be used throughout your life. No need to have studied Textiles and Design in years 9 & 10 Textiles and Design

Year 11: Design- Design elements and principles, design communication and presentation techniques, fashion drawing, rendering and manufacturing methods Properties and Performance of Textiles- Fabrics, yarns and fibres, fabric testing ACTFAI- Australian textile, clothing and footwear industry overview Assessment: 2 small design projects student choice, 1 ½ hour exam and 1 hand in task Textiles and Design

Year 12: Design- History of fashion, Fabric colouration and decoration, cultural case study: Textiles of Japan, Designer case study: Akira Isogowa Properties and Performance of Textiles- Innovations and emerging technologies, selection of textiles for end uses ACTFAI- Current issues, sustainability & marketing Major Textiles Project- Students create a textile item of their choice to be submitted for marking to the Board of Studies 50% of the class time is allocated to practical design projects in both year 11 and year 12 Textiles and Design
