Fast Math Tricks Vedic Math

This tutorial will teach you a technique to divide any number by a single-digit number.

Consider the following example.

Lets call the dividend a and the divisor b.

Divide the first two digits of a by b. In this example, 19÷5 = 3 with a remainder of 4.

Write down the quotient and insert the remainder into a (ahead of the next digit).

Divide the following two digits of a by b. In this example, 46÷5 = 9 with a remainder of 1.

Append the quotient to the result and insert the remainder into a (ahead of the next digit).

Divide the following two digits of a by b. In this example, 15÷5 = 3 with a remainder of 0.

Append the quotient to the result and insert the remainder into a (ahead of the next digit).

Divide the following two digits of a by b. In this example, 5÷5 = 1 with a remainder of 0.

Append the quotient to the result.

This is the last digit and the remainder is zero. The result is the answer.
