COMMUNITY SERVICE ANIMAL SHELTER

WHO I WORKED WITH  I worked with Nicole Griner who showed me all the different things.

WHEN AND WHERE  The Humane Society  4242 S 300 W, Murray, UT  Friday October 9  from 4 to 8 p.m.

WHY I CHOSE THIS ACTIVITY  I chose to volunteer at the humane society for my community service activity because my girlfriend loves animals, especially dogs so she wanted to come with. She was more into it than I was.

WHAT I DID  I fed the dogs and cats and gave them water.  I helped give them baths and brush the animals.  I got to play with them and take them on walks.  I had to clean up the poop and made sure their cages were clean.

WHAT I LEARNED  I learned they took a lot of unhealthy dogs and cats in.  I also learned they are always busy with new dogs and cats and they are low staff.  It takes a lot of time to take care of all the animals because they have so many.  Some of the dogs are mean but its because they are scared.

WOULD I DO IT AGAIN?  I would do it again because I had a good time with all the animals and the people very nice.

MY NOTES  I was really excited for this project because I thought I would mainly play with the animals but there turned out to be a lot of work I had to do. But it was fun. There was a lot of people that came in to look at dogs and there was a lot that leave the dogs and cats. It was really sad to see because all those dogs need a good home to go to and I learned they have feeling and when they’re locked up they’re really sad and lonely even though they had toys for them to play with. It was also a great experience and I wouldn’t mind to go back and help out again. My step mom is good friends with Nicole and so working with her was a great time because she showed me all of the ups and downs and how it’s a lot of hard work to take care of the animals.
