Presentation transcript:

 Dionysus was the son of Zeus (immortal) and Princess Semele (Mortal).  He was born in Thebes  Zeus fell in love with Princess Semele and promised on the Styx river, to do anything for her and when she asked to see him in person, he couldn’t deny it. Mortals are not allowed to see immortals in person so when Zeus showed himself to her she died, but as she was dying Zeus took her unborn child (Dionysus) and had him rebirth.

 Dionysus was the god of wine, agriculture and the fertility of nature.  He was sometimes considered the god of joy because of the fun feeling of being intoxicated.  He was also known as the god of despair because of what the aftermath of drinking does to men, and was blamed for the down spiral of men with drinking problems.

 Hera, Zeus’s wife, found out about Zeus's infidelity and decided to take out her anger on Dionysus.  She ripped him to pieces and he died but he was born again.  He was able to stay alive for the wine/vine season but was ripped up again with the start of winter.

 They lived in Babylon.  Both were wealthy  They had very close houses.  Thisbe was the fairest Maiden in the East  Pyramus and Thisbe wanted to marry but their parents forbidden them.

 Pyramus and Thisbe were forbidden to see each other so they found a crack in the wall separating their houses and whispered to each other.  Pyramus and Thisbe were so in love, they decided run away to the Tomb of Nin’s, under a tall mulberry tree full of white snowberries.  Thisbe arrived there first and while she was waiting for Pyramus a huge Lioness appeared and as she fled she dropped her red coat and the lion tore it apart leaving red streaks that looked like blood.  Pyramus appeared a little bit later and saw a piece of Thisbe’s cloak, the red streaks and the lioness claw marks and concluded that his love was dead.

 Pyramus was overcome with so much guilt and grief over Thisbe that he drew his knife and stabbed himself to death.  After a long time Thisbe comes back and sees Pyramus dead and was so sad. She thought that since he killed himself for her then she must do the same, and with the bloody spear she killed herself.
