Superintendent’s “Everybody Teaches” Academy Overview and Implementation Plan

One Goal: Student Achievement “Everybody Teaches” (ET) will leverage non- school site administrative talent to assist in the delivery of instruction to our students. EducationSchool/District Leadership Student Achievement: An Education for the Third Millennium District leadership benefit from: 1.Additional exposure to students and classroom instruction helps to refocus and reprioritize current duties 2.Collaboration with school-site staff can serve as a springboard for new ideas and future initiatives Students benefit from: 1.Additional resources in the form of more teachers, tutors, mentors etc. 2.Diversity of lessons provided by ET’s faculty prepares students beyond FCAT Everybody Teaches

Who will participate? Every MEP and DCSAA non-school employee will be given the opportunity to participate. We are exploring the inclusion of other employee groups in this initiative, specifically FOP. Everybody Teaches Framework What will they do? Depending upon teaching certification, educational background, and/or participation preferences, employees will serve in one or more of the following roles: Classroom teachers to teach or co-teach an existing lesson plan Teachers who participate in Saturday’s “Success Academies” Visiting professors or guest speakers who intertwine an outside lesson into an existing curriculum Tutors and mentors who work with individual students or groups of students on focused areas of study Where will they work? Assignments will primarily be at Intervene or Correct II D & F Schools. How often will they work? Assignments will vary based upon the school’s needs and participant’s availability. Ideally, participants will engage in six unique assignments throughout the school year.

Implementation Plan To ensure the success of ET, a step-by-step implementation is essential: Assess the current non-school site administrative staff for teaching certification, educational background, and participation preferences. This assessment will be conducted in the context of an application to join the ET Faculty. Conduct professional development to prepare ET Faculty members to succeed; this will include meetings/interviews with Principals to define expectations Strategically deploy ET faculty on a schedule that (a) works best for the participating school while (b) maintaining a continuity of work product in the faculty member’s department Everybody Teaches

Professional Development Everybody Teaches Classroom management techniques : Creating a positive classroom environment Being pro-active to minimize distractions Strategies for increasing student engagement: Planning with the End in Mind Differentiating lesson delivery modes to accommodate a variety of learning styles Co-teaching models and use of available resources: Meeting with the cooperating teacher to review Pacing Guides and Learning Village Lesson Plans Tips for successful teaming Additionally, the Professional Development department will award Master Plan Points for “Everyone Teaches” Faculty.
