Who were some South Carolina Abolitionists and what did they believe? Sarah Grimke believed that the slaves should be free. And Sarah’s little sister Angelina, also believed that the slaves should be free. John Brown wanted to stop slavery in the United States.

How did Abolitionists feel about slavery vs. those who supported states rights? They did not like that people had slaves and thought it was mean and cruel.

What did the Abolitionists do to help end slavery? Delany, Martin Robinson, Conway Moncure Daniel. Finally and fatally there was abolitionism, the antislavery moment, passionately advocated and resisted with equal intensity, it appeared as late as the 1850’s to be a failure in politics. Yet by…

Other interesting facts about Abolitionists… Sarah and her sister ran away from home to become Quakers. And Sarah taught some slaves to read.

In the United States the slave trade was officially abolished in 1807, but the smuggling of slaves continued until the Civil War. As cotton plantations developed in the South, the demand for slaves increased. The Southern states thus supported slavery. In contrast, by 1804 all of the states north of Maryland had abolished slavery. The North became the center of the abolitionist movement in the United States. The slave trade was abolished in 1807 in the US, but they still smuggled slaves until the Civil War. A demand for slaves increased as the cotton plantations developed in the South.
