Defining the Emerging Roles for Armies in the New Millennium Future roles – war to civil Train, resource & equip for full combat – capable of flexible missions Greater involvement in multi-agency operations Need for Change

Addressing Interoperability Challenges for Armies in Coalition Operations Common Goals Building and Maintaining Coalition Forces in a Crisis Integrating Coalition Force Differences Maximize Niche Capabilities

Summary Current and future roles of our armies are no different from the past. What has changed is how we operate due to environmental changes—transnational threats, globalization, urbanization, cyberspace, CNN affect, etc. To minimize the potential negative impact we must improve interoperability and enhance regional and international cooperation.
