ACT-IAC is… A public-private partnership dedicated to advancing the business of government through the application of technology Driven by a government-led agenda A non-profit that serves the government IT community A collective brain trust of government and industry experts that works with government decision-makers on the most pressing issues and challenges A forum for collaboration, education and action A go-to provider of, and authority on, government IT education and training

Collaboration, Advancing Government  ACT-IAC offers a government-driven, educational, neutral forum where government and industry IT professionals can openly exchange ideas and develop solutions for today’s toughest IT challenges. Proof Point: VistA Challenge: In 2009, Roger Baker, CIO for the Dept. of Veterans Affairs (VA) approached ACT-IAC for recommendations on upgrading VistA, VA’s legacy healthcare system, and making it available to a larger audience. Solution: In response, 42 IAC member companies came together over six months to assess options and advise the VA to develop an open source-based version of VistA as the key component of its electronic health record modernization plans. Results: In a recent press briefing, Baker called IAC's recommendations "good advice. It is being incorporated into our thought processes." ACT-IAC is currently briefing government agencies and other interested parties on its efforts. Takeaway: There’s value in what we do and it provides an opportunity to contribute to the overall government IT mission.

Education and Training  ACT-IAC’s education and training programs are focused on cultivating the next generation of government and industry IT leaders. Proof Point: Voyagers Program Objective: ACT-IAC’s Voyagers Program is a leadership development program for "rising stars" or mid-level managers in both government and industry who have a high potential for future advancement. Process: After a highly competitive process, each government participant is teamed up an industry counterpart and put through a rigorous curriculum. Participants gain insight into cross-sector challenges and best practices, which help to foster collaboration. Results: Now in its sixth year, the program has served as a critical stepping stone for many who have gone to take high ranking positions. For example, Jonathan Alboum, a past graduate of the program, rose through the ranks and is now CIO of Food and Nutrition Service at the Dept. of Agriculture. Takeaway: The brain trust of government IT lives here. We are the go-to place for leadership and educational opportunities.
