Second Pro- Interval Timer ED 377- Artifact 3 Tom Poole Seconds. (2010, January 1). Retrieved November 8, 2014, from

Seconds Pro Introduction- Excerpt from my journal Entry This app has a free version but to be able to “save” the timers the user creates, the app costs $4.99. It is available on apple and android devices. Interval Timer: Seconds Pro is a piece of technology that is an advanced, customizable timer that can be used for many different fitness purposes. The Pro version of the timer allows users to create and save their own custom timers. The timers can be named, and multiple exercises can be added. A certain time period or “interval” can be set to do each exercise that was entered. A specific rest time can be created. The number of sets for the exercise circuit can also be established (Seconds 2010). One of my favorite features of this app is that once all of this information is set up, the user can click the start button and it will lead them through the workout by using its text to speech function to tell users which one of the exercises they entered is coming up next and when to rest. Different music can even be added to different exercises. An advanced application of this app is that it also syncs via Bluetooth with certain heart rate monitors. Two examples are below of what custom timers might look like.

Main Screen The students can create their own “packs of timers” that are folders for the timers they create.

Built in Timers The timer repository contains over 100 different interval timer presets for students to use right away.

Created Timers This view shows where students can view the timers that they create in each of their folders (packs).

Creating a Timer When creating a timer, students have the option to pick from a variety of templates or start from scratch.

Creating a Timer- HIIT Template Here is what the HIIT timer template timer looks like.

Creating a Timer- Circuit Timer The following few slides will show the process a student would experience when creating a timer using the Circuit Template. Here, the timer is named, number of sets is determined, and the exercises are created.

Creating a Timer- Adding an Exercise The students can add any exercise they wish and specify the duration. Left/Right split can be used for exercises that only use one arm or leg at a time. The app will tell students to switch sides half way through. Different music can be added for each exercise- chosen from the student’s library on their device.

Creating a Timer- Exercises Added Any number of exercises can be added in any sequence. Each exercise has a unique duration so the timers can be very customizable.

Creating a Timer- Rest Time, Music/Sound The rest time in between intervals and sets can be created. Music can also be selected for the whole exercise circuit. Text to speech can be selected to talk students through the circuit, telling them what exercise to do, when to rest, and when to begin.

Using a Timer Here is what the student would see when using the timer. After setting it up with all the previous steps, the timer can be saved and used over and over. All the student would need to do is click play and follow along with the text-to- speech voice.

Social Media Integration The App can be linked to Facebook and Twitter accounts to publish workouts to friends, family, and associates.

Heart Rate Monitor Integration Bluetooth technology allows certain heart rate monitors to be synced with the app.

Sharing Timers Once timers are created, they can be shared via with a few taps. Students can share timers with each other, I can share timers with them, or they can me their timers for assessment.

Student Product- Assignment Create a bodyweight fitness circuit in Seconds Pro containing: – 2 Upper body exercises (label red) – 2 Lower body exercises (label green) – 2 Core Exercises (label blue) The circuit in Seconds Pro must contain: – At least 2 sets – At least 10 seconds between intervals (label yellow)

Classroom Integration During the middle and high school years in PE, creating and following an exercise routine is an important skill to teach. Using this skill and giving the students a little guidance, they could use the Seconds App to build a well rounded, goal-specific, workout routine. The routines can be saved, and new ones could be created and added as the semester goes along. Teaching this technology could give students a powerful tool they could use in and beyond the classroom to maintain healthy lifestyles (Tier 4).

Thanks for Viewing!
