Our class, at Dover Elementary, in Westlake, Ohio, in the United States of America would like to share information about our government. We do not have a monarchy we have a democracy where the leaders are chosen by votes from the people.

Our leader is the President. In addition to the president, we have two houses of government, the House of Representatives and Congress. Each state gets to have several members in both the House and the Congress. People who want to be President or a member of the House or Congress “run for office.” When one chooses to run for office, they go around and talk to people about their ideas, have debates with other candidates, and answer voter’s questions.

Voters, have to be 18 years old to vote, then go to voting booths with machines and pick the people they think will be best lead our country. The people with the most votes get chosen to lead the people. The President gets to be in that job for 4 years. After that, they can try to be president for another 4 years. The longest a President can lead this country is 8 years. We look forward to hearing about all of your governments. We are particularly interested in the monarchy as we all watched Will and Kate get married. We do not have princes and princesses in America and think it is cool!

The British government runs the UK. The leader of the government is the Prime Minister. Great Britain (UK) is a parliamentary democracy with a Queen as Head of State. In Britain people elect Members of Parliament (MPs) to the House of Commons at a general election, held no more than five years apart. Most MPs belong to a political party, and the party with the largest number of MPs in the House of Commons forms the government.

Parliament is where politicians (MPs) meet to decide laws and make decisions for the United Kingdom. It is not the same as the Government (which runs the country). One of the jobs Parliament does is to check that the Government is running the country properly. The main functions of Parliament are: to pass laws to provide, by voting for taxation, the means of carrying on the work of government to scrutinise government policy and administration, including proposals for expenditure to debate the major issues of the day Parliament is made up of three parts: 1.The Queen 2.The House of Lords 3.The House of Commons

The House of Lords and the House of Commons meet in the Houses of Parliament, located next to the River Thames in London. The clock tower is the most photographed part of the Houses of Parliament. It houses five bells. The biggest and most famous bell is called Big Ben. The Houses of Parliament is also called the Palace of Westminster and was a royal palace. The last monarch to live here, Henry VIII, moved out in Parliament has met in the Palace of Westminster since around 1550.

The Government of Pakistan is a federal parliamentary system, with an elected President as the Head of State and Commander in Chief of the Pakistani Armed Forces, and a Prime Minister as the Head of Government. The Parliament of Pakistan consists of the President and two Houses to be known respectively as National Assembly and the Senate. The Members of the National Assembly are elected for a term of 5 years whereas the Members of the Senate are elected for a term of 6 years with staggered elections every 3 years. Pakistan

A person who is a citizen of Pakistan, is not less than 18 years of age, and is not declared of un-sound mind can get himself enrolled as a voter Pakistan
