The Human Body How does exercise effect the human body? Part 1 - The Musculoskeletal System
Muscle Muscle is a tissue in our bodies that converts energy (from food) into motion Three kinds of muscle –Cardiac –Smooth –Skeletal
Cardiac Muscle Found ONLY in the heart Twitches involuntarily (not controlled)
Smooth Muscle Found in digestive track, bladder, female uterus contracts involuntarily
Skeletal Muscle Attached to bone Comes in pairs (bicep/tricep) We can build it by working out Moves voluntarily (we think about it)
The Skeletal System Provides support and structure Surrounds some organs Enclosed by muscle and skin Where new blood cells are produced
Making Connections Bone is attached to muscle by tendons Bones attach to each other by ligaments Joints - location where bones make contact –Some mobile (elbow, knee) –Some fixed (skull)
Next Steps - Diagram Muscular Skeletal Diagram Color code a diagram in order to identify muscle bone and connective tissue Muscle - green Tendons: orange Ligaments: brown Joints: Purple Bone: blue
Homework 2 paragraphs (4 sentence minimum each) –You are a Tendon/Ligament/Joint. Write a letter to your body explaining why you are the most important connection in the musculoskeletal system.
