Opening State Electrical Contracts to RE Activities - Many Types - Most Utilities - Tax Payers - Example: Universities Public Service Commission (PSC) August 28, 2002

- 11 State Universities - 28 Community Colleges - 27 Independent Colleges and Universities - 66 total

Annual budget vs electrical - UM 470million/6million = 1.3% - UCF 578million/9million = 1.6% - UF 1,857million/26million = 1.4%

Who wants to participate? - UM wants but thinks it can’t.. - UCF considers it too expensive.. - UF tried but was shot down..

What formula could work? - UM wants a grant opportunity (buy down) - UCF happy with any economic rationale.. - UF glad to sell reductions…

Count RE assets towards utility RPS - 540million for electrical in 10 years.. - Over 1Billion for all 66 institutions.. - Increases outlay by 4.5% 2.5c/kWh = $20tCO2

Why academic setting? - Expanding in size and membership - Motivated clients - Student support - Relatively small impact - Paid for by students

Total impact: - 14,5Million/yr with 10% from RE

- Nice meeting all of you! Mark van Soestbergen tel fax Toward Climate Stability ™
