18.1 Changes During Adolescence Adolescence is marked by the onset of puberty, and the second fastest period of growth.

Physical changes include primary and secondary sex characteristics. Primary is characterized by the production of the reproductive cells.

Secondary is characterized by the changes found in figure 18.1

Mental and Emotional changes include the increase in memory and cognition. Although the brain is 95% formed by the age of 6 it’s ability to think and reason continue to advance.

Social changes include cultural diversity and challenges to what you believe in.
