WHAT IS A PROTIST?. MOST ARE UNICELLULAR! ALL PROTISTS ARE EUKARYOTES, THAT IS THEY HAVE A NUCLEUS. THEY LIVE IN A MOIST ENVIRONMENT.
Cells and Tissues.
PROTISTS EUGLENA, AMOEBA, PARAMECIUM, VOLVOX What is a protist? Protist—diverse group of single-celled organisms. Eukaryotic.
Unicellular Adaptations-
Cytoplasm is found between the cell membrane and nucleus. The organelle is similar to the insulation in a house because it is found between the two main.
Plant vs. Animal Cells. Although most cells have the same basic stuff, there are some differences between animal cells and plant cells.
Paramecium January 26, What is paramecium? Paramecium is a genus consisting of unicellular ciliate protozoa. Domain: Eukaryota Kingdom: Protista.
Protists Unicellular Adaptations. Protists Eukaryotic – Membrane bound organelles; nucleus Live in water Most are unicellular – Some are multicelluar.
The Protists Phytoplankton: Euglena, Volvox, Zooplankton: Amoeba, Paramecium.
 Most protists are unicellular organisms  Few are multicellular  All protists are eukaryotes  Eukaryotes have cellular organelles and prokaryotes.

Unicellular Organisms Learning Intention: Describe the general structure of unicellular organisms and the functions of cellular components and organelles.
Animal Like-Protista (Protozoa) All are unicellular heterotrophs. Nutrition by ingesting other organisms or dead organic material. Some organisms are parasitic,

Organelles found only in....

 Paramecium have a permanent organelle which functions in feeding. Oral Groove >

 Paramecium have a permanent organelle which functions in feeding.  O.G is a ciliated channel on one side of the cell.

 Paramecium have a permanent organelle which functions in feeding.  O.G is a ciliated channel on one side of the cell.  Food is swept into the O.G and cilia move the food inside where a vacuole forms around it so it can be digested.

Oral Groove >

 Where waste is expelled.

 Orange granule – usually at the ‘front’ end

 Functions in light detection and makes the unicel move towards or away from light.

 Specialised vacuoles which regulate amount of water inside.  When vacuole is full it expels water to the outside of the cell.

 Now we are going to play “I have, who has” to see how much you know!
