Is beauty on the eye of the beholder? National Parks of the Untied States

Unit Plan Places to Visit Before They are Gone –Are there places on Earth worth saving for future generations? –Why do people need protected places? –What can we do to promote the protection of the environment in National Parks?

Unit Summary The purpose of this unit is for 5 th graders to explore the National Parks System of the United States. Students will explore the geography, beauty, environment and historical data of the National Parks.

Assessing Prior Knowledge 1. What is a National Park? 2. From its geography and pictures, what do you think are some natural attractions that helped this area to become a park? 3. What large city is close to this park? Why does this matter? 4. Why do people visit National Parks?

Your assignment Choose a National Park from the National Park Service website Using the topic guidelines, research the national park by finding information and pictures

Purpose: Plan a presentation that will showcase your National Park. Essential Question: Is beauty in the eye of the beholder? How will you answer this question through your presentation? Follow the guidelines for required information to be included in the PowerPoint.

YES, you will have an assessment for this presentation! Review the rubric we will use to “grade” your work We will showcase your National Park in order to answer our “essential question”.
