Presentation transcript:

Historically some Christian churches taught that God’s knowledge and will have predetermined the course of the world, as well as the action of every human.

 The belief that God has planned out everything. Everything about us is determined by God.  Free will is merely an illusion.  Humans cannot be held accountable for their actions or omissions.

 Today most Christians believe in providence, that is, God’s influence upon events and actions.  This belief can only be maintained if one believes that God can achieve the salvation of the world. Providence

To conform to the Catholic understanding of predestination, your theology must accept the following:  Free will; that is, God allows people to choose him, and He allows people to reject him. People always have the option.  Co-operation; it is necessary for salvation for a man to cooperate with God's grace. Man must continuously allow God's grace to work in him. If at any point a man prevents this, he falls from grace however he/she can regain grace by attending the sacrament of reconciliation.  Jesus died for all men, and his sacrifice has the potential of saving all, but his act did not automatically save everyone, only those who choose to accept him.  God predestines no one to Hell.
