THE LINK Program of Study Templates provide the foundation for the student’s Personal Plan of Study

An individual planning system is in place (which includes the necessary forms and procedures) that assists all students as they develop educational and career plans. This planning is initiated no later than 7 th grade and includes: assessment activities advisement activities identification of long- and short-range educational/career goals including a 4-6 year plan that is reviewed and revised annually. collaboration with parents/guardians.

House Bill 1613 – Remediation Prevention Requires school districts to develop a system for identifying students who are at risk of not being ready for college-level work or entry-level career positions Each student prior to his or her ninth grade year at a public school, including a charter school, may develop with help from the school's guidance counselors a personal plan of study, which shall be reviewed at least annually by school personnel and the student's parent or guardian and updated based upon the needs of the student.

Academic PPOS can be used to support and maximize each student’s ability to learn and master state standards. PPOS can:  Build awareness of graduation requirements  Raise student expectations  Foster individualized student supports  Make learning relevant

Career PPOS can enable students to make a successful transition from school to work and from job to job across their professional life. PPOS can:  Connect students to long-term career opportunities  Assist in postsecondary transitions  Enable portfolio creation  Serves as a guidance tool

Developmental PPOS can support students’ personal and social growth as students progress through school and into adulthood. PPOS can:  Promote engagement and motivation  Support life-long learning skills  Strengthen decision-making and problem-solving skills  Foster self-awareness and identity building

Research on the Effectiveness of Student Learning Plan-PPOS  Improve student motivation and engagement  Improve students’ understanding of postsecondary options and long-term planning  Improve school-family communication and foster family involvement in academic and career planning  Shown to increase student awareness of their individual strengths and weaknesses  Aid students in selecting courses relevant to their career goals Source: Rennie Center for Education Research & Policy
