II.The Beginnings A. end of WWII (1945) B. US drops bomb (1945) 1. Fear in USSR they want one too! Viewed as first act of the Cold War

III.Yalta sets the stage A.Meeting between FDR(US), Churchill(Britain), and Stalin(Soviet Union)before war ended B.Purpose: reestablish nations conquered / destroyed by Germany in WWII

IV.Results of Yalta A.Poland & Yugoslavia independent B.Soviets promise free elections C.Germany divided into zones controlled by 4 conf. ( US, France, Britain, & USSR) Stalin’s idea
