LaTonya Ketchup Grade Level: 8 th Subject Area: Social Studies Main Topic: Three Branches of Government CCSD Standard: C14.[6-8].5 Explain the functions of the three branches of government (executive, legislative, and judicial) as found in the U.S. Constitution Standard 1. Learning Purpose and Connections  What we will be learning? The students will be learning about the 3 Branches of Government.  How will students know the objectives for the lesson? The students will know the objectives for the lesson by using Webquest. The Daily Objective will be listed and dates assignments are due. Also I will include information on Padlet daily to keep up with assignment content.  How will students know the purpose and relevance of the lesson? On the Webquest page there is an Rubric explaining the purpose and relevance for standards. Also included is the how the student will be evaluated according to content provided. The Rubric will be used as a guide to keep the students information in order and also to provide necessary information requested to receive a good grade.  What resources/ technology will help students make connection to previous learning? (Daily Review). The content learned in class will be a continual review along with research assignments that each individual person is assigned to. The group assignments will also be used to help provide the connection for previous learning enhancement.  How will student receive feedback for their review? I will be giving each student individual feedback on work to help with understanding to coursework.  How will student build their current knowledge? They will build their current knowledge through daily activities involving technology such as Kahoot, Powerpoint, Excel, Survey Monkey, Wordle. Etc. These program will keep the students engaged in required technology standards.  How will lesson plan be introduced? The lesson plan will be introduced using PowerPoint and Interactive Whiteboard.

Standard 2: Learning Tasks and Cognitive Demands How are students supported in achieving the learning goal? The students will be supported by daily activities that will be monitored by myself. These activities will show individual development but also help with in need for further instruction and possible redesigning activities to assure content in learned. 1.What depth of knowledge levels will students experience in the learning tasks? They will learn the 3 Branches of Government according to their grade level and from previous experience. This assignment will include 8 th grade class trip to Washington DC to further develop the understanding of government functions. 2.How will students be supported to experience deeper learning? Special Needs students will be given the Assisted technology programs required for them to under to their level of understanding. Programs such as touch screen, expanded keyboards, customizable keyboards etc. will be used to assure that SPED student are receiving content. 3.How will students be challenged to advance their thinking and skills? The students will be challenged by using test, quizzes and interactive software such as Kahoot to help with thorough understanding of content.

Branches of Government  Standard 3: Engagement Strategies and Discourse How will students engage in interactive dialogue and discussions? The students will engage in Today Meets to do discussions online and bring content to classroom discussions. 1. How will students develop their skills in argumentation, explanation, and critique, using logic/ evidence to support or refute a claim or position? The students will use CMAP Tools to bring productive work to life. They will be critiqued on doing a research paper on the given branch of government by myself and transform this information into a logical paper. The research paper will include constitutional research and laws and regulations that have been refuted by our government to make it a better society to live in. 2. How will students use multiple representations of concepts in their thinking? They will use multiple representations by being introduced to various emerging technologies to help them with making the learning of Branches of Government exciting and fulfilling with also understanding and being knowledgeable of the information being presented. 3. What opportunities will students have to use their personal experiences and knowledge to connect to the new concepts and skills? Their will be an PowerPoint presentations that will make their learning personal and matched to their own level of understanding. The presentation will help the student with innovative ideas. 4. How will students collaborate with each other? They will collaborate with each other through classroom and online discussion boards that have been set up by myself to assure interaction in both the classroom and at home. They will also be graded heavily on discussions it is an important factor to their project.

Standard 4: Students Understanding of and Responsibility for Learning  How will students reflect on their learning progress through structured metacognitive activities? Each activity will be a graded activity. These graded activities can be viewed in Infinite Campus therefore the student and parent will be able to track the students progress. 1. How will students reflect on the learning goals, the performance criteria and purpose of the lesson? They will reflect on learning goals by accomplishing each task that is given in a timely manner by also being challenged to find topics on the 3 Branches of Government on Flipboard and bring some those topics to class for discussion part of daily activity assignment. 2. How will students share their progress? They will share their progress by making a webpage on Weebly. The information will be showcased for all students to review along with PowerPoint Presentations. 3. How will students be supported in revising their learning strategies based on their progress? The students will be supported by teacher. The teacher will share strategies and give resourceful insight to assure the student has full understanding of assignment.

Standard 5: Assessment Integrated into Instruction How were student pre assessments or work samples used to plan this lesson? The work samples helped me to develop lesson plans according to each students individual level of knowledge on 3 Branches of Government. What evidence of student learning will be generated during the lesson? The evidence of learning will be generated to interactive programs. I will create Excel spreadsheet with students information so that I can share with them individually to show them how they are learning the material. How will students receive formative feedback? Students will receive formative feedback through , Infinite Campus, Individual feedback sheets for each assignment. How were instructional adjustments made based on student formative assessment results? The formative assessments helped me to create more interactive programs using Animators, Prezi, Kozoa etc. These programs helped to enhance creativity in Technology and bring the content of Government to life for the student. What homework will be issued to support the lesson? The homework will go over the Constitution, Checks and Balances, Executive, Legislative and Judicial Branches. How will the lesson be closed? The lesson will close with individual presentations. How will the lesson be reviewed? The lesson will be reviewed with a semester test and inclusion of content in final exam for end of school year. How will student progress be assessed? Student progress will be assessed by Rubric this will show level of understanding and also will give the teacher the necessary information needed to assure the student level of understanding.
