Noun A noun is a person, place, thing, or idea. The girl was at the park.

Pronoun A pronoun takes the place of a noun. It was jumping to them.

Verb A verb shows action or state of being. The dog ran to me. I am happy.

Adjective An adjective describes a noun or pronoun. The big, blue house is mine.

Adverb An adverb describes everything except nouns and pronouns. The dogs are barking loudly.

Conjunction A conjunction joins words, phrases, or sentences together. My book was about penguins, but his book was about wolves.

Preposition A preposition tells the relationship between words in a sentence. My coat is in the closet.

Interjection An interjection is a word that expresses emotion. Wow! He runs fast!

Citations All the pictures came from the clip art on the PowerPoint program. All the sentences were originals. All the definitions were the ones we studied.
