When the angel Gabriel visits Mary to tell her about her pregnancy and Jesus’ future, one of the key ideas that gets stressed is that Jesus is God’s Son. Luke 1:32 - “the Son of the Most High” Luke 1:35 - “the Son of God”

Let us never lose sight of how insane the incarnation of Jesus would sound to Jewish ears…as well as to most others, too! “The holy, Creator God willingly came to Earth to live 33 years as a human…for me?”

Matthew 2:11 “On coming to the house, [the Magi] saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him.”

The Greek word “Kyrios” for Lord carries 2 main meanings in this passage: 1.) Sovereignty/Authority “You are my Master because of Your status.” 2.) N.T. name for Yahweh It is crystal clear that the angel infers that the Messiah is God.

This week and next Sunday we will be looking at a famous Old Testament prophecy that speaks of other “names” and roles the Messiah will fulfill. * Isaiah 9: 6-7

Hear these mighty words: “the government will be on His shoulders” “the greatness of His government will have no end” “He will establish His kingdom and uphold it” “He will reign forever”

It’s one thing for us to accept that God is eternal, but another to accept that this fragile peasant human child born in Bethlehem is the “everlasting God” in disguise.

John 5:18 “For this reason [the Jewish leaders] tried all the more to kill him; not only was [Jesus] breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.”
