The energizer bunny has a lot of energy! But what does that mean?

Law of Conservation of Energy The law of conservation of energy states that energy may neither be created nor destroyed. Many physicists were noted with the discovery of the law, including Einstein

Different Forms of Energy Mechanical – energy associated with the motion or position of an object. – Can be kinetic or potential

Forms of Energy Thermal energy – the total energy of particles in an object. – When thermal energy increases the particles move faster, making it feel warm to touch. Why does it feel warm?

Forms of Energy Chemical energy – potential energy stored in chemical bonds that hold chemical compounds together. – Examples: Chocolate, wood, wax – Chemical energy is even stored in the cells in your body.

 Electrical Energy- moving electric charges produces electricity.

Forms of Energy

F o r m s o f E n e r g y Nuclear Energy- potential energy stored in the core, or nucleus, of an atom. –O–One kind of reaction occurs when a nucleus splits Nuclear fission Used to produce electricity –A–Another kind occurs when nuclei join together Nuclear fusion Occurs in the sun and other stars
