Pre-revolutionary Islam  Women were not allowed to wear veils  Forced to wear western style clothing  Women were given rights and education  Government and rich people owned land  Peasants were given nothing to live on

Revolution Against the Shah  Some women wanted veils to be brought back  Many Iranians could not stand the social inequality  Wanted a government that helped the poor  Wanted to bring back old ways of life/law
