Outline of Teaching Ethics Respect Security Being a Benefit Fairness Fidelity and Honesty

Respect The teacher is responsible for protecting the privacy of their students. Never use students names outside of a classroom setting. Teachers must always respect their colleagues and refrain from making false or potentially hurtful statements. Being respectful helps students succeed. Value the opinion of students.

Security For All Do no physical or emotional harm. Do not tolerate any unethical behaviors. Create a safe learning environment. Seek consultation if you are unsure what to do in a situation.

Being a Benefit to Everyone Accept the responsibility of students welfare. Recognize that you a role model to students. Provide services students deserve. Involve parents.

Fairness Listen to your students side before reaching conclusions. Treat everyone in the class equally. Have consequences for cheating. Use accurate assessment instruments such as tests, homework, projects, etc. Grade based on individual performance rather than the whole classes performance.

Fidelity and Honesty Show integrity and follow through in all you do. Be consistent. Use informed consent procedures when needed. Let students know exactly what is expected of them.

Dignity Respect diversity Consider everyone's dignity. Have self respect.

Caring Show compassion towards students, parents and colleagues. Tell the students you care about them. Show interest in students interests. Simple gestures like smiling can show students you care. Greet students each morning. Attend extracurricular activities. Have class meetings.

Doing Your Best Take pride in your work. Value excellence. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and feedback from students, parents and colleagues. Have a positive attitude. Look for ways to improve your teaching.
