3/19/2016Computer-Mediated Communication10 A Few More Logistics: Course Format  Lecture + open discussion  With your class participation and weekly reading task  Several in-class activities: rapid-prototyping design projects, in-class experiments…

3/19/2016Computer-Mediated Communication11 Weekly Reading Task: Reviews! The goal: to highlight specific issues, themes, contributions, and/or problems from the readings.

Weekly reviews  One short review required per session.  “Short but informative.” Think of a good online review (Yelp, Amazon.com, etc.). A few paragraphs is sufficient. Be honest but be specific.  Critique, explore, examine — no need to summarize.  Due before class. No Exceptions!  Your reviews are essential to the course. We will wrap them into our lectures and slides. Your reading and reviews are the core of our discussion.  30% of your grade — you can’t pass the class without them.  This week: Complete two short reviews by Thursday (one reading for today and for Thursday). 3/19/2016Computer-Mediated Communication12

Weekly reading task examples from the days of yore 3/19/2016Computer-Mediated Communication13

3/19/2016Computer-Mediated Communication14 Assignments and final projects  Problem and justification statement  Interim report  Final project report

Project ideas  Your ideas will be posted to a shared google doc (more info coming)  We will use these to help you organize into groups. Typically 2-4 students. 3/19/2016Computer-Mediated Communication15 If you have a project idea already, keep thinking about it and try to write up a few sentences about your interests.

Final projects from the land before time… long long ago…  Two Examples  Squash&Vine  user assessment, site prototype  Mediated Memory  Theory and hypotheses, experimental design 3/19/2016Computer-Mediated Communication16
