2.7 Line Monitoring Through Relay Team RST: Daniel Schlickeisen, Santiago Soriano, and Brittany Torelli Faculty Advisor: Dr. Larry Larson Sponsored by Emerson Process Management

Problem The DeltaV system can only monitor the connection between the CHARM and the relay that controls the system

Project Requirements Monitor and detect faults in the system past the relay Maintain electrical isolation Exclusively run on 24V Reliable

Project Summary The idea of the project is to develop a device that will extend the monitoring capabilities of Emerson’s DeltaV system

Project Design Using a current sensor, optical isolator, solid state relay, and microprocessor, the monitoring system is able to detect open and shorted connections past the relay

Key Components

Testing and Results

Complications -Noise in the system -Interference from environment -Wrong components shipped
