Hunger Games/THEME By: Victoria Lux & Jon Hansen 8-3 E.L.A Author

What is a Theme? To figure out what the story REALLY is about. Theme is the moral of the story. It’s what we learn form what the characters do, how they act, and what the outcome of their actions are. Some really common themes are; Friendship, Love, Struggles, Resilience, Adventure/ Mystery, etc.

Possible Themes… 1. Adventure/ Mystery/ Risks 2. Love/Friendship 3. Battle For Survival 4. Hunger & Starvation 5. Resilience 6. Resourceful

Risks… 1} Katniss stepping in front of Prim on the stage- Prim got picked to be in the hunger games but Katniss didn’t allow it. 2} Katniss applying to be a tribute for the game. 3} Hornets Nest- Katniss trying to get rid of it in the tree so she could get away. 4} Katniss tried to destroy The Careers supplies.

Continued…. 5} Berries- Katniss + Peeta tried to eat them to kill her self.

Love/Friendship… 1} On pg. 9 in the book, I find that Gale, is giving the readers a little hint that he has something for Katniss. He says, “ We could do it you know,” Gale says quietly. What? Katniss asks. “Leave the district. Run off. Live in the woods. You and I, we could make it,” says Gale. Katniss gets confused and doesn’t know what exactly to say. 2} Peeta joined The Careers but still saved Katniss fighting.

Love/Relationship - Continued……. 3} Katniss’ sister Prim and her Mother- Leaving both of them when really Katniss is the provider of the house. 4} Gale + Katniss- Friendship or different relationship? 5} The Game makers- Training For Game…

Struggles 1} THE GAME!!!!!!!!! 2} When Katniss battles for the spot to become the winner and how she fights to live while she is in the hunger games with all of these other components from all of the other districts. 3} The battle between The Careers with Peeta also joined with them..

Resilience/ Resourceful My opinions: 1} Katniss, will hold out her resistance and show others who she really is and will never give up, and to keep her head up high 2} Not having any problems fighting Peeta with the Careers even though they have a past with friendship.

Continued…. 3. The fight for food, shelter, water, {etc}. 4. Getting supplies from the people outside of the game…{people from the districts} Wondering if they are rooting for you or going against you?

Continued… 5} To be smart with her choices and surroundings in the forests. 6} Specific Examples: Fighting to be alive: 1. Fighting the Careers. 2. Taking Rue in to be on Katniss’s side to share their supplies: food, water, etc. 3. Volunteering to participate in the games.

THE END!!!!! Hope you Enjoyed the PowerPoint!
