What can you do to be successful in social studies this year?

How will you earn your grade? Doing homework/being prepared for class 10% Doing your best on classwork assignments 25% Studying and doing well on quizzes 30% Performing well on tests / completing projects to the best of your ability 35%

About homework… Homework supports what you learn in class. It is important ! ~ Copy it into your assignment book! ~ Take your materials home (text, worksheet) ~ Complete it! ~ Have it ready to review at the beginning of class! ~ You will start each marking period with a 100% HW average. For each incomplete assignment you will lose 5 points from that average.

When you do not complete homework… ~ You will be asked to write the reason on a slip of paper. ~ You are expected to complete it on your own time and show it to me. ~ The homework slips will be collected by the Explorer Teachers. ~ For every 5 slips you accumulate, they will be attached to a parent letter and sent home. ~ Appropriate team consequences will occur.

About being prepared for class… Bring to class each day… Binder & current worksheets Assignment Book Pencils Black Flair marker Completed homework

You will start each marking period with a 100% “being prepared for class” average. Each time you forget something, you will lose 5 points from that average. Your challenge is not to lose any of the 100 points throughout the entire marking period !

Quizzes and Tests will never be a surprise! ~The date of the quiz or test will be announced ahead of time so you may prepare ~A number of suggestions will be offered for how you can study for the assessment ~Your notebook is a great study tool

Sapphire Community Web Portal ~Parent Portal~ Allows your parents (and you) to see your grades in each subject throughout the marking period More info will be shared at Parent Information Night

Social Studies Average Your grade will not be a surprise! Teacher will remind you to check your grades at mid-marking period and at the end of a marking period Student access to Portal –Check it periodically –Good to do during homeroom
