Page 7 NASA MSFC Engineering Directorate Mission Operations Laboratory MSFC Page 7 Crew Task Assignment Philosophy General Philosophy: Payload tasking for NASA payloads is level loaded as much as feasible across USOS crewmembers. The task assignment decisions for crewmembers include assessment of training accomplished in previous flows; crew availability at partner sites/template constraints; crew consent on subject payloads; crew interest/ preferences; and crew overall loading. CTC reviews increment specific payload task assignments with crewmembers. Crewmember interest, preferences, and requests are accommodated unless constrained by expedition templates; facility/instructor loading; and/or individual crew loading. Training philosophy for freezer facilities (MELFI/GLACIER) –Cosmonauts will not be trained unless specific requirements for freezer facilities are identified - early enough in their training flow to be accomplished. –All USOS crewmembers will be trained to either Specialist or User level One Specialist per Increment Remaining USOS crewmembers will be trained as Users

Page 8 NASA MSFC Engineering Directorate Mission Operations Laboratory MSFC Page 8 Crew Task Assignment Philosophy (p2) For 6 Person Crew Ops, for NASA payload training, the number of payload specialist trained for each payload will be assessed by the Training Strategy Team - based on a specific criteria set. (Shown in backup charts) –Generally one specialist or operator per increment (example: one for I21 & one for I22) but some payloads will require only 1 across the two increments. For Single Flow to Launch (SFTL) Ops, backup crews will not be trained unless certain criteria are met. Payload training requirements for backup crewmembers will be assessed by the Training Strategy Team - based on a specific criteria set. (Shown in backup charts) After the Increment Specific Research Plan is baselined and payload task assessments are completed, the task assignments are reflected in the Prime and Backup Master CQRMs. (CQRMs are provided as attachments 1 & 2 to this presentation.) CQRMs are used by the Increment Training Integrators and the International Training Implementation Working Group as the integration tool for identifying and documenting crew task assignments. Just prior to Increment start, a Crew Training Matrix is developed and baselined for POIC use.

Page 16 NASA MSFC Engineering Directorate Mission Operations Laboratory MSFC Page 16 Backup charts - NASA Backup Crew Training Criteria A set of criteria will be added to the TST process to determine and document whether it is required to train backup crew members for each payload No other concurrent onboard crew will be trained; –A payload no one else has been trained on –2 persons required and only one trained person is onboard and Payload is difficult / unique; –Complex operations –Finesse skills –Scientific judgment and decision making and Payload has high impact; –Safety (containment, thermal, mass, etc.) –Continuously powered (EXPRESS) –Keep alive (Animals, etc.) –Cold stowage (MELFI, Cold Bag) –Limited window of opportunity (decay, life cycle stage, short fuse) –Risk of loss of substantial data collection or ops investment –Program priority (agreements, contracts, obligations) and if applicable Baseline Data Collection (BDC) is possible. –Is there time to perform pre-flight BDC? –Is the crew member eligible (data type, custom gear)? –Informed consent signed? –Hardware / equipment available at crew site (e.g. Russia)?
