Causes of the Great Depression The “Roaring Twenties” was a time of economic boom in the United States. Increased mechanization in manufacturing Increased mechanization in manufacturing Increased buying on credit Increased buying on credit Increased investing in stock market Increased investing in stock market Rising personal debt Rising personal debt

Stock Market Crashes! Ever rising investments in the stock market could not be sustained. Stock market crashes on Black Tuesday, October 29, 1929.

Poverty President Hoover underestimates the impact of the crash. No government programs offered assistance to businesses, banks, or families.
