Pre-production, Production & Post-production The Three Act Structure S1 Review (p2) TV, Film and Digital Media Ms. Copeland

Agenda  Pre-production  Assignment: 3- Act Story  Act 1: Opening Act - Exposition  Act 2: The Complication – Rising Action  Act 3: Conclusion – Resolution  How To Write A Movie Script  Scripting Basics  Font  Quick Reference Guide  The Four Formats  The Treatment Format  The Center-column Format  The Full-page Format  The Two-column Or Split-page Format

Assignment How Would I Change The World 3 Act Story: Act 1 - Opening  Now that you have developed your main character, you are going to create the opening act. This is where you establish the setting for your story (where and when), the main characters (the protagonist and the supporting cast members) and their relationships to each other. The end of this act is where you protagonist is confronted by the antagonist (opposition). This is the catalyst for the rest of your story.

Assignment How Would I Change The World 3 Act Story: Act 2 – Rising Action  Here, the main character begins to confront the problem for the first time. Generally, the protagonist fails the first time, and often many times after. This is where the growth of your main character begins. They, through trial and error, must learn how to solve the problem they have encountered.

Assignment How Would I Change The World 3 Act Story: Act 3 - Conclusion  The protagonist’s problem reaches its most difficult point in Act Three. The problem is solved and the characters growth is completed. This is also where any subplots are resolved (i.e. supporting character’s that are conflicted). 
