Controlled Transverse Blowup with ADT MD block #3 / th August 2011 presented by W. Hofle T. Levens, S. Redaelli, F. Roncarolo, R. Schmidt, D. Valuch OP crew: L. Ponce, R. Giachino W. Hofle - LSWG 13. September 2011

Preparations for MD (1) W. Hofle - LSWG 13. September 2011 white noise generated on FPGA running at 40 MS/s deployed on a test crate in SR4 with gating connected to all dampers of beam 2 (H and V plane) noise can be filtered by IIR lowpass filter noise triggered for up to 1 second, repetitively also, typically 5x (D. Valuch, M. Jaussi, D. Jacquet, T. Levens) gate, 11  s (example)

W. Hofle - LSWG 13. September 2011 Preparations for MD (2) the noise generator is a 43-bit long linear feedback shift register (for every bit of the output word) running at 40MHz the sequence repeats after 2^43-1 clock cycles = i.e. 61 hours currently not restarted at every excitation burst, but left free-running feedback polynomial is x^43+x^42+x^38+x^37+1 generates 14 bit words every 40 MHz clock cycle the noise is then low-pass filtered by a two sections second-order IIR filter Application note from Xilinx:

W. Hofle - LSWG 13. September 2011 Preparations for MD (3) IIR lowpass filter (500 kHz) 1 or 2 sections possible, 2 sections used

W. Hofle - LSWG 13. September 2011 Part 1, 2 pilot bunchesPart 2, 12 nominal bunches Part 3, loss maps (one nominal bunch) Three parts with different filling patterns / intensities (always beam 2)
