Housing and Social Issues: Housing Affordability Immigration Anne Schwieger

Housing Affordability Price of housing throughout the region –Market housing –Social housing What is the range of income levels that the Albacete region’s current social housing stock can accommodate? –What does the spatial distribution of these income levels look like across the region? Break down by municipality? –In what areas of the region is their a shortage, or alternatively a surplus of social housing? What factors inform the latter?

Immigration Rate of immigration to the Albacete region Outside of Spain Movement of people within Spain Factors influencing immigration What are the factors which inform immigration to the Albacete region? –Are there relationships between factors which influence immigration and the spatial distribution of immigrants who settle within the region? –What combination of factors would potentiate a high rate of immigration to the region? Low rate? »What constitutes ‘high’ and ‘low’?

Immigration In what parts of the region have immigrants settled? –What informs this spatial distribution? »National origin? »Race? »Language? »Socioeconomic class status? »Prior professional or other employment experience? Integrating immigration with other areas of our work –Economic development (Workforce considerations, participation in local economies, etc.) –Can current housing stock (market and social) accommodate projected rates of immigration? –Etc. In what ways does the current state of the EU influence the rate at which people from other nations of Europe immigrate to Spain? How might the entry of other countries into the EU impact the rate at which people immigrate to Spain? Are there EU policies which might have an impact on future immigration patterns?
