Organizing Foldable Fractions 1.Fold and label the squares as follows: – Blue square into halves, – Green square into fourths, – Red square into eighths, and – Orange square into sixteenths. 2.List the criteria for which you would organize these colored squares. 3.Cut the squares along the folds. Now use one section of each color to organize. 4.Is there another way you could organize them? 5.Place all pieces into a baggie and keep for future use. NO.1.4.4, M13.4.8

Movie Time Joe and Tommy planed to go to the movies together. Joe lives 20 minutes from the movie theater, and Tommy lives 17 minutes from Joe’s house. If the movie starts at 2:45 pm, what time will Tommy have to leave his house to pick up Joe and get to the movie theater by 2:30pm? M12.4.1

Puppy Perimeter Determine the perimeter for each puppy pen. Organize the pens and describe the criteria used to organize. Which pen would you select to place a large dog in and why would you choose this pen? M ft 2½ ft 4 ft 2½ ft 14½ ft 6½ ft 3½ ft 5½ ft 9½ ft 4 ft

Perimeter vs. Area 1.Draw a figure whose perimeter is 24 units. 2.Draw a figure whose area is 24 square units. 3.Make up a word problem where you have to find the area. 4.Make up a word problem where you have to find the perimeter. 5.Can two different figures have the same area and M

Perimeter vs. Area 1.Ask the principal or another teacher for an object to measure. Record the length and width of one side in centimeters. 2.Draw on grid paper and label the side of the object you measured. 3.Compare the perimeter and the area of the object. M , M

Analyzing Area Using grid paper, draw a rectangle with an area of 60 units squared. How many units is the longest side? How many units is the shortest side? Describe the formula used to find the area of this rectangle. Modify your rectangle using different dimensions. M

Crazy Customary Heights With a partner, stand against the wall and place a piece of tape at the highest point to measure partner’s height. Switch and repeat the process for your partner. Record heights to the nearest foot and to the nearest inch. Record actual height then calculate the difference. M12.5.2

Meter Measure Using a meter stick measure the height of the light switch from floor to the bottom of the switch plate. Record this measurement in centimeters. Convert the measurement to kilometers, meters, and millimeters. Record your conversions. Distinguish the difference between your recorded numbers. M12.5.3

Using Units Using the cube, determine the perimeter of one side (face) and label answer with the correct units. Using the cube, determine the area of one side (face). Label answer with correct units. Using the cube, determine volume. Label answer with correct units. (* Hint: linear units, square units, or cubic units) M ft
