Florida Social Studies Sunshine State Standards Grade Level Expectations FLStandards.org

Slide 1: Sunshine State Standards/Implementation Sunshine State Standards- align curriculum, instruction and assessment in the state of Florida Districts, schools, and educators have the responsibility of designing instruction to teach the standards Grade Level Expectations (GLEs) are based on the SSS and are organized by benchmarks; basis for state assessments in reading and math

Slide 2: Using the Grade Level Expectations Serve as a basis for curriculum development Not intended to limit learning “Districts, schools, teachers, and students are encouraged to extend the content and achievement expected as they feel it is appropriate.” Any program being used can be modified to meet the necessary benchmarks; all must be met by grade 5 for elementary students

Example: A second grader is required to know “ways in which technology changes the way people in the community live.” All technological influences would be impossible to teach in the allotted time but the “teacher would need to select for study, some ways that would contribute to the students’ understanding of the topic.”- AKA… your PROFESSIONAL interpretation Slide 3: Using the Grade Level Expectations (continued)

Slide 4: Numbering System for GLEs For easy reference, each Grade Level Expectation has been assigned a unique identification code. The numbering system used builds upon the already existing numbering system for the strands, standards, and benchmarks that make up the Sunshine State Standards. See sample!
