Identify each of the following activities as either SAFE or UNSAFE Identify each of the following activities as either SAFE or UNSAFE. Support your response!

UNSAFE Eating in the lab is UNSAFE because you might ingest chemicals which are harmful and/or deadly.

SAFE The student is wearing safety goggles to protect her eyes. This will prevent her eyes from being injured if some of the chemicals splash up while she’s working in the lab.

UNSAFE First, the student is handling the hot test tube directly in his hand; he should be using a test tube holder. Second, the student has the test tube pointing toward him; it should be pointed away. Third, the boy is not wearing eye goggles while working with hot chemicals.

UNSAFE It is never safe to directly smell a chemical substance. Rather than smelling a substance directly, he should use his hand to waft the chemical.

UNSAFE First, the flame from the bunsen burner is much too high. Second, her hair is not tied back. This is dangerous. Third, her arm is much too close to the open flame.

SAFE First, he is wearing protective gear such as safety goggles and a lab apron. Second, he is washing his hands which helps to maintain sanitary conditions.
