GCSE GEOGRAPHY Which Syllabus? AQA Syllabus A Geography

How is the course examined? There are 2 exams – each exam is worth 37.5% of the final grade. There is a single piece of Controlled Assessment – worth 25% of the final grade.

Tiered Entry Geography allows students to be entered at one of 2 levels depending on how well you are performing. Higher which allows A* - E grades. Foundation which allows C – G grades That decision would be made in Year 11 based on Mocks and Controlled Assessment performance!!!

What do we study? There are basically two areas of study – each of which has a separate 1 hour 30 minute exam at the end of Year 11. In each exam you have to attempt 3 questions!!! PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY HUMAN GEOGRAPHY

The Physical Geography topics? You will study around 4 of the following topics from 2 sections SECTION A: The Restless Earth Rocks, Resources and Scenery, Challenge of Weather and Climate, Living World You need to choose at least one of these topics from Section A on the day of the exam

What about Section B? Section B consists of... Water on the Land Ice on the Land The Coastal Zone Again you need to choose at least one of these topics from Section B.... The 3 rd question can come from either Section A or B – that’s up to you

The Human Geography topics? You will study around 4 of the following topics from 2 sections SECTION A: Population Change Changing Urban Environments Changing Rural Environments You need to choose at least one of these topics from Section A on the day of the exam

What about Section B? Section B consists of... The Development Gap Globalisation Tourism Again you need to choose at least one of these topics from Section B.... The 3 rd question can come from either Section A or B – that’s up to you
