Inca Achievements Imagine going back in time thousands of years ago to the Inca society, and you walk around a little and see priests doing surgery, people freeze drying food, and you walk over a river on a suspension bridge.Well, those were a few of many achievements of the Incas. We visited three civilizatons, the Maya, Aztecs, and Incas and their achievements. And the Incas had the most achievements.

Suspension Bridges The Incas invented suspension bridges to go over rivers. These were made from smaller ropes woven together from alpaca and llama wool, cotton, and grass. How they held up at each end were they anchored the bridges to stone towers at either end of the bridge. The bridges got up to 150ft long which was longer then bridges from Europe at the time. Some are still in use today.

Brain Surgery Brain surgery back then was mainly used to repair combat wounds to remove bone fragments that are pressing on the brain. At first patients usually died but over time Incas became skilled surgeons with 90% survival. Surgeons carefully scraped bone away from the injury for the surgery. A form of surgery is used today to reduce pressure when there is fluid build up in the brain. Found from:

Argument Although the Incas had many great achievements there were some other great achievements by other civilizations. The Mayans invented two calendars one solar calendar (365 days) and the other a religious calendar that told the preists when to hunt, battle, plant, ect. The Aztecs invented the chinampas the floating gardens which made it easier to grow crops and it was a way of getting around.

Freeze Dried food The Incas freeze dried foods by putting potatoes under a cloth in the mountain where it would freeze over night. Then they stomped on the potatoes in the day to wring out the moisture. Over many days they would make freeze dried potatoes called chuno. This was a good achievement because it was light weight, and it was preserve for a long time which was good in times of drought and natural disaster or lost crops. Chuno is still made today. Found from: inventions.htm#page=5

Conclusion The Incas had many great achievements that helped their society a lot, suspension bridges, brain surgery, and even freeze dried foods. We still use many of their inventions today.
